Hoa Lo Prison Museum in Hanoi, Vietnam

Hoa Lo Prison was built by the French in 1866 right in the middle of Hanoi, Vietnam, to hold Vietnamese political prisoners, and was also later used by the North Vietnamese to hold American POW's during the Vietnam War. Only a small part of the prison now remains, and it stands as an interesting museum [...]

Harbour View in Riomaggiore, Italy

We visited the village of Riomaggiore on our third day in the beautiful Cinque Terre in Italy. We caught the ferry from Monterosso al Mare and landed here near the little harbour. I think I could wander around Cinque Terre for weeks and never get bored.

Wandering the streets of the Old Quarter in Hanoi, Vietnam

Stepping out of our hotel, we turn left and walk along the rough pavement next to the street. Motorbikes zoom by as we pass by a lady frying up spring rolls in her little makeshift kitchen on the sidewalk. Random shops and eateries line the street and I glance inside a little hole in the [...]

Why you should visit South Australia

When it comes to travel in Australia, South Australia tends to get left out a lot. Most people are drawn to the Eastern States, the Red Centre and even the rugged North. Places like the Great Barrier Reef, Sydney Harbour, The Great Ocean Road, Uluru and Kakadu are all amazing places, so what does South [...]

Hyena in Ngorongoro Crater, Tanzania

I saw quite a few hyenas while on safari in Tanzania, however it wasn't until I got to Ngorongoro Crater that I could get close enough to get a decent photo of one. There were several hyenas in this particular spot, mostly just lazing around in the grass near a herd of wildebeest. They were [...]

Exploring Albany and Camping at Cosy Corner, Western Australia

We were sad to leave our perfect location at Munglinup Beach, but it was time to move on and we were only heading to another beach called Cosy Corner, so how bad could it be? Continuing our journey west along the south coast of Western Australia, we made our way to the old port city [...]

Floating fish farm in Han La Bay, Vietnam

While on Cat Ba Island in Vietnam, we took a boat tour to explore Halong Bay and the far less crowded Han La Bay. From the dock on Cat Ba Island, we were almost immediately travelling through the beautiful limestone karst islands of Han La Bay, where there is a large floating fishing village. Make-shift [...]

Old gravestones in Uralla Cemetery, Australia

Is it weird that I actually like visiting cemeteries when I travel? Anyway, in Uralla, Australia, I did just that. We went to the old cemetery in town to see the grave of Captain Thunderbolt, an infamous bush ranger from the area, and what we found were a lot of very old gravestones from the [...]

Relaxing at beautiful Munglinup Beach, Western Australia

It seemed as if we had been driving non-stop for weeks. The long drive across the Nullarbor had really tired us out, and now that we were finally in Western Australia, we were dying to find somewhere quiet to relax for a couple of days. From Norseman, we headed south towards the coast. Although I [...]

Ladies selling balloons on the street in Hanoi, Vietnam

The Old Quarter of Hanoi, Vietnam is a hive of activity at any time of the day, but I find that it particularly comes alive at night. As I wandered down Hang Buom to go to the night market, I came across these ladies selling balloons on the street. I think it made for an [...]
