From gold in Sofala to car racing in Bathurst, Australia

Since we had unexpectedly headed north again to Glen Davis, we had to head south towards Bathurst instead of west like we had planned. To make the most of it, we decided to take the back road through Sofala, a historic town from the old gold rush days. Gold was aplenty around Bathurst during the [...]

Through the Blue Mountains to Lithgow and Glen Davis, Australia

There wasn't a lot happening around Wisemans Ferry, and all we really got from our camping spot was a whole lot of mosquito bites, so after a quick breakfast and a shower, we packed up and continued on our journey. Our path today wouldn't really take us very far south, but instead on more of a westward direction as [...]

Panorama: Sandstone Cliffs of Glen Davis, Australia

We only went to Glen Davis in New South Wales, Australia, because the campsite that we chose didn't work out. This turned out to be a blessing in disguise as we would have missed out on this beautiful sight otherwise. I shot this panorama while standing in the streets of this old shale oil mining [...]

Rough roads and detours to Wollombi and Wisemans Ferry, Australia

The van rocked and strained as I edged it through a gutter that had been carved through the dirt road by the rain. Although it was dry now, at sometime in the recent past there must have been heavy rains that had washed away much of the top layer of the road, and all that [...]

Boats at a Village on the Mekong River, Laos

I took this photo while travelling on the Slow Boat up the Mekong River in Laos back in 2011. As the boat slowly chugged it's way up the river, we stopped in at many small villages on the banks of the river to offload passengers and cargo. The Mekong River is the only way to [...]

Wine Tasting in the Hunter Valley, Australia

The Hunter Valley is a beautiful area inland from Newcastle on the central coast of New South Wales. The area is one of Australia’s premier wine growing regions, and since we just happened to be travelling through the Hunter Valley on our Great Australian Road Trip, we kind of had to stop to do some [...]

Off the beaten track to Sheba Dam and Lake Liddell, Australia

Leaving the cool mountain air of the New England Tableland behind us, it was time to continue south and head down off the highlands to Australia’s country music capital – Tamworth. I personally have no great interest in country music, but since we had to pass through this country city anyway, I thought it would [...]

A Lioness in Ngorongoro Crater, Tanzania

While on safari in Ngorongoro Crater, Tanzania, we spotted some lions hiding in the tall grass. While stopped to take photos, this lioness walked right by our vehicle, not even caring about us at all. This was yet another amazing sight during my time on safari in Tanzania.

Visiting Captain Thunderbolt’s Grave in Uralla, Australia

We had spent the morning exploring the historic town of Glen Innes on the New England Tableland of New South Wales, Australia. It was a chilly morning as we walked around, so I was quite happy to enjoy the warmth of our camper van as we continued to drive south to Uralla, our destination for [...]

Panorama: Towards Tamworth from Moobi Lookout, Australia

From high up on the New England Tableland in Australia, we drove down the range from Uralla towards Tamworth and stopped at Moonbi Lookout for a rest and to enjoy the view. I took this panorama from the top of a huge granite rock which acts as the lookout. You can view the New England [...]
