Today’s travel photo is of some Buddhist offerings and candles at a shrine on Phou Si in Luang Prabang, Laos. Phou Si is a sacred hill situated in the centre of Luang Prabang, covered in forest and gardens with a small temple and chedi at the top. On the Nam Khan side of the hill there is also a larger temple with lots of interesting Buddhist sites and buildings to check out.
I took this photo while I was first climbing up to the top of Phou Si one morning on my recent trip to Luang Prabang. It is a very peaceful place to spend a couple of hours, especially early in the morning or late in the afternoon.
The formations and designs created by the spent candle wax is really interesting and of course, the color is striking.

Hi Maria. Yes, I think that is what drew me to take this photo. I found the candle wax very interesting.

Are they only allowed to use yellow candles to offer on Phou Si Dean? Yeah, the flowers looks like a party hats. Nice one Rachel.
Hi Kristy. I’m not sure if there is a rule on what colour candles that you can use, but from memory they seemed to be yellow.
