When the Great Alpine Road of Victoria was blocked off on the way to Mt Hotham, we instead had to take the road up through Falls Creek to get to the coast. It turned out to be an absolutely beautiful drive up the forested slopes to the alpine village of Falls Creek, high up on the Bogong High Plains. In the winter, this whole area gets covered in snow, making it one of Australia’s best ski areas. During March when we were there, the area had a very pleasant cool mountain climate.
I took this panorama just past Falls Creek where the Rocky Valley Dam provides water for the Hydro Electric Plant and also for snow making for the nearby ski resort in the winter. This area is truly different from anything else I have seen in Australia, and I imagine it would be even more beautiful in the winter when it is covered in snow.
