Street side vegetable stall in Chiang Rai, Thailand

This week’s travel photo is of a lady selling vegetables in a roadside stall in Chiang Rai, Thailand. I really enjoyed wandering around the different fresh food markets in Thailand, and I would often buy some delicious fresh fruit to snack on.

Chiang Rai Markets

Market shopping is deeply engrained in Thailand’s culture and mostly locals still buy their fresh produce from markets and roadside stalls such as this one, rather than at supermarkets (which do exist in larger cities). Chiang Rai is home to a vibrant market scene, offering everything from fresh local produce to handcrafted souvenirs. The city’s fresh food markets, such as the bustling Chiang Rai Fresh Market (Kad Luang), provide a fascinating glimpse into local life, with stalls overflowing with tropical fruits, vegetables, meats, and freshly caught fish. Early in the morning, locals gather here to buy ingredients for traditional Thai dishes, making it a great place to immerse yourself in daily life. Most tourists make their way to the Chiang Rai Night Bazaar and Saturday Walking Street which offer street food, handmade crafts, and live performances, creating a lively and colorful evening setting. Chiang Rai’s markets are a feast for the senses and an essential part of exploring the city’s culture.
