Queen's Pagoda in Doi Inthanon National Park, Thailand

This week’s travel photo is of The Queen’s Pagoda on a cloudy morning, in the high mountains near Chiang Mai in Northern Thailand. The twin pagodas, known as Phra Mahathat Napha Methanidon and Phra Mahathat Naphaphon Phumisiri, represent the King and Queen of Thailand and were built to commemorate their 60th birthdays. They are located near the highest point in Thailand in Doi Inthanon National Park.

About Doi Inthanon National Park

Doi Inthanon National Park, located in the Chiang Mai province of northern Thailand, is a natural wonder renowned for its stunning landscapes and rich biodiversity. Home to Doi Inthanon, the highest peak in Thailand, the park offers a range of activities for nature lovers and adventure seekers. Explore lush forests, cascading waterfalls such as the majestic Wachirathan Falls, and scenic hiking trails that lead through stunning rhododendron fields and ancient forests. The park is also a sanctuary for various wildlife species and is dotted with small hill tribe villages where you can learn about local customs and traditions.

How to Visit Doi Inthanon National Park

The easiest way to visit Doi Inthanon National Park is by joining a tour from Chiang Mai. There are plenty to choose from including multiday hiking tours. We did a full day tour from Chiang Mai that included visits to Doi Inthanon, Wachirathan Falls, a rainforest hike, the King and Queen’s Pagoda and a visit to a hill tribe village. If you’re competent, you can also hire motorbikes in Chiang Mai to explore on your own (only advisable for experienced motorcyclists).
