This week’s travel photo is a close up shot of the Trevi Fountain (Fontana di Trevi) in Rome, Italy. This 18th century fountain is a beautiful piece of artwork and one of the most popular attractions in Rome. Legend says that if you throw a coin into the fountain you will return to Rome. It worked for me 😉
More about the Trevi Fountain
The Trevi Fountain (Fontana di Trevi) is one of Rome’s most iconic landmarks and a masterpiece of Baroque art and architecture. Completed in 1762 by architect Nicola Salvi and later finished by Giuseppe Pannini, the fountain was commissioned by Pope Clement XII as a celebration of Rome’s abundant water supply and the completion of the Acqua Vergine aqueduct, which dates back to ancient Roman times. Set against the backdrop of Palazzo Poli, the fountain features a central statue of Oceanus, the god of water, surrounded by allegorical figures and cascading waterfalls, symbolizing the taming of water. Tradition holds that tossing a coin into the fountain ensures your return to Rome, a ritual followed by millions of visitors every year.
