It seemed as if we had been driving non-stop for weeks. The long drive across the Nullarbor had really tired us out, and now that we were finally in Western Australia, we were dying to find somewhere quiet to relax for a couple of days.
From Norseman, we headed south towards the coast. Although I am Western Australian born and raised, I had never ventured this far east into the state, so I was excited to finally make it to the port town of Esperance, which I had always heard was a lovely spot. Being on the weekend, Esperance was a busy place, and a lot of people were making use of the lovely foreshore area that looks out over the lovely bay that the town sits in. Huge ships were anchored off the coast near the harbour.
We only really stayed in town long enough to buy some supplies and have some lunch before continuing on to our chosen destination – Munglinup Beach.
Munglinup is located about 100 kms west of Esperance, and you need to turn off the highway before the town to get to Munglinup Beach itself. The camping area here is located right behind the dunes and costs $10 per night for a campsite. The camping area is nice enough, but it was when I stepped foot on the beach itself that I realised that Munglinup Beach was going to be perfect for us.
A beautiful stretch of white sand sloped down to some of the most beautiful clear water that I have seen. Off shore there is a reef that stretches across the bay, providing a fairly sheltered area of water at the beach itself, perfect for swimming. Also, there wasn’t a single other person on the beach, and given that there are only a handful of campsites, the beach would never be able to get really crowded.
Feeling the sand between our toes, we let Mindy off to run freely on the beach, where she is happiest running along the sand and splashing among the waves. We got to the end of the beach and went into the beautiful clear water for a swim. It was all just perfect. We had found a great spot.
For the next couple of days, this is where we called home. Relaxing on the beach by day and chilling out in our camp at night. I even climbed up to the top of the highest sand dune to get an amazing panorama of the beach and bay, a truly breathtaking sight.
I have always claimed that Western Australia has the best beaches, but I thought that I was just being biased since it is my home state. After visiting Munglinup Beach, I stand by this claim. If you want amazing beaches, go to WA!
Looks so peaceful and relaxing… love the sunset picture! 🙂

Glad you liked it 🙂
I agree, the beaches in Western Australia are gorgeous. I`ve only seen a few around Perth, Rockingham and in Magaret River up to Cape Leeuwin. Can`t imagine how many more there are out there. Hope to see them all one day. Great photos!
